There is the perennial complaint - from the contracted parties - that it costs too much and, afterall, they're the ones who fund that sucker and they don't need no outreach. ICANN - the corporation - has always expected others to fund outreach on its behalf. All you need do is look at ALS in the context of the MOU and see how it is articulated. fellowship for Johannesburg.<br>

I am not happy. I am not happy at all since you will notice two
things:<br>
<br>
1. the Helsinki meeting taking place during MidSummer, what was
going to be originally a Policy + Outreach meeting, which is what
meeting B was supposed to be, became a Policy only meeting, as there
was nobody to do outreach to. Remember that Meeting B needing to
happen on continents that did not have the infrastructure and
capacity to host an A or C meeting, and was supposed to have a
significant outreach component part. The Jo'burg meeting is now set
to be a "policy only" meeting!!!<br>
<br>
2. As a result, we are faced with being on a continent that requires
the most outreach and engagement, but are told that as this is a
"policy forum", applications are restricted to only Fellowship
Program Alumni. I thought that completely defeats the purpose of a
Meeting B.<br>
<br>
What is going on? I think that the ALAC should seek a formal
response from the ICANN Board about this.<br>

Fellowship Application Round Now Open</h2>

<p>ICANN launches the application round for ICANN59.
This round is open only for Fellowship Program Alumni,
those who have previously completed an ICANN
Fellowship, as it is a Community Policy Forum The
meeting takes place from 26-29 June 2017 in
Johannesburg, South Africa. The deadline to apply 27
January 2017 at 23:59 UTC. Successful candidates will
be announced on 24 March 2017 on

Fellowship Program[icann.org]</a> seeks out those
who are interested in, or already engaged in, the
various components of ICANN's work in policy building,
the operation of the Domain Name System and the
security and stability of the global Internet. The
goal of the Program is to help create a broader base
of knowledgeable constituents to engage in the ICANN
multistakeholder process and become the new voice of
experience in their regions and on the global stage.</p>
<p>Since its creation in 2007, the Fellowship Program
has built a strong group of individuals who are
actively participating in all of the ICANN communities
as well as various Internet governance entities within
the Internet ecosystem. Their engagement ranges from
writing articles and blogs, providing online or
in-person public comment in regard to bottom up policy
building, engaging in Internet conferences and panel
discussions, lifting a pen in working groups,
mentoring newcomers, assisting our regional leaders
and becoming leaders themselves.</p>
