[ALT-Plus] [Ext] RE: Portugal - ICANN64 Meeting Planning - new delegation

Dear all,

I would like to propose to discuss the agenda of the joint ALAC/GAC meeting in Kobe at the ALT-Plus meeting today (see below the e-mail from Charlotte Simoes, the GAC Liaison to the ALAC ad interim.)

For agenda point 1 (EPDP), I would like Alan to take the lead in comparing notes with the GAC.
On the point 2, it would be good to have Jonathan to take lead, discussing whether the results of the CCT-RT have been taken into account in SubPro. Point 3 would be just to note that the Board has accepted the clarifications to the joint ALAC/GAC Statemens from Abu Dhabi. I can take the lead on it. As far as point 4 is concerned, I'd be ready to scrap it, because Jean-Jacques will not be in Kobe. On point 5, GAC suggests to broaden our  cooperation and start intersessional work not only on capacity building, but some other areas as well.

I am very pleased to start working with you on GAC/ALAC cooperation on behalf of Ana and I am looking forward to see you in Kobe. I do not know if you remember me but I participated in GAC´s meeting in Barcelona together with Ana.

Regarding the agenda of our meeting, I understand that the session is schedule for 45 min and there is the possibility to extend it for 15 min (until 12h30) if needed. In any case, we think that a shorter and concrete meeting could be more effective.

As far I understood the agenda points, please find below some thoughts and suggestions, taking into account the last exchanges of e-mails.

1.    EPDP update (The objective will be to have an exchange of views between GAC and ALAC on last developments. Is that the intention?  Could ALAC take the lead?)

2.    Procedures for new gTLDs (e.g., the ICANN Board’s potential treatment of the Final Report recommendations of the CCT Review). (The objective will be to have an exchange of views between GAC and ALAC on their contribution to the CCT Review Final Report, the relation between the CCT Review process and new gTLDs PDP and future action of ICANN’s Board on CCT Review Recommendations. Is that the intention? Could ALAC take the lead?)

3.   Follow up to the joint ALAC-GAC statement from ICANN 60. (We agree with you that this point should be short taking note of ICANN’s Board response. Could ALAC take the lead?).

4.   Topics arising from the IGF speech of President Macron (e.g., regulatory matters, the role of multilateral/multistakeholder solutions, etc.) (This debate is conditioned to the French Government’s agreement with this agenda point. Rf Ana’s e-mail).

5.    ALAC-GAC cooperation on capacity building (We suggest to have this agenda point more broader and not only on capacity building. We could use this time frame to propose the creation of like minded GAC and ALAC members small working groups around issues of convergence to work inter-sessionally to prepare our join plenary meetings in a concrete manner. Capacity Building is certainly one of this issue. We would like to understand which other common issues and who could be interested in working together and joint efforts. As last, we propose to switch the order of this agenda point 5 with agenda point 3. What do you think? Portugal can kick off the debate on this).

I would much appreciate your clear thoughts on this.

With the ICANN64 GAC meeting schedule coming together and the meeting only about six (6) weeks away, the GAC Support Staff is hard at work preparing meeting logistics.

You may recall that before the ICANN63 Barcelona public meeting, Gülten Tepe and Julia Charvolen reached out to all GAC representatives to confirm their delegation plans for attending the meeting. Thanks to responsive replies from almost all of you, that exercise proved to be very productive as it helped the staff to confirm the overall Barcelona meeting room layout well in advance, facilitated attendee scheduling plans and enabled us to plan for a productive inaugural “first-timers” meeting session at the beginning of the ICANN63 week.

The purpose of this email is to alert you to again look for an upcoming email from either Gülten or Julia asking about your GAC delegation plans for the ICANN64 - Kobe meeting.

This will be our first GAC meeting without the independent GAC Secretariat and we continue to work with the GAC leadership team to adjust meeting preparations to improve logistics, smooth arrangements and utilize your time most effectively.
