I’d agree with Jonathan (and the others) up to a point about the use of graphics, etc. Remember, we should be a global community and for many of our community, there is not the bandwidth, and the device - at best - is a mobile phone handset that would not support bandwidth hungry tools. So yes, tools- but also the content that keeps people attending ALAC sessions - and fosters the global conversations Seb as rightly arguing for.

They have, for he majority of the community, become something to dread rather than anticipate. We’re looking at the same lifeless presentations, even from ICANN itself, one of the more wealthy non-profits in the word. We’re not making use of graphics, video or interactive tools to make the meetings more interesting and participatory. With the exception of enhanced interpretation, there’s been virtually no improvement in over a year. So, the inevitable result is that the meetings are eroding over time to be the minimum they can be and still be called a meeting. It’s been painful to watch. As such, I might be inclined towards Seb’s second suggestion of perhaps skipping a meeting. Otherwise, we fight this continuous uphill battle to get the rest of the community excited for these discussions. Right now they are simply an annoyance.

Within this planning group and each of us internally within our teams, we have briefly discussed what the next version of a remote participation experience should include when we get back to having some in person participants. Considering the possibility of ICANN 73 being the first ICANN meeting using this renewed format, I believe it is time to seek input from the broader community.

For quick reference, you will find the four and five-day example block schedules on slide #3, followed by an ICANN72 time zone chart on slide #4. Slide #5 includes the schedule production timeline and slides #6 through #11 outline the detailed proposals for ICANN72 plenary topics.

We'll plan to proceed this way unless anyone has serious objections that the list is made aware of by Tuesday, 17 August 2021. We will also inform the SOAC Chairs accordingly, to ensure that everyone across the community is aware.
