Subject: [ccPDP4-IDNWG] ccPDP4-WG: Expression of Interest sub-working group Variant Management

Dear all,
As agreed the first sub-working group will be on developing relevant policy recommendations pertaining to Variant Management of IDNccTLDs.

Role of the Sub-Group. As discussed on the calls, the recommendations this sub-group will develop will be presented to the full working group. The full working group will then need to support these recommendations, before they will be included in the set of policy proposals. Note that the policy proposals have to be limited to variant management of (IDNcc)Top Level Domains. Developing policy proposals with respect to second level domain names is out of scope of a ccNSO PDP.

Time commitment. the intention is to meet every two weeks, for 60-90 minutes (Basically a  call will be 60 minutes, but if needed we would like to allow  for the possibility to run it a little longer). In addition sub-working group members are expected to prepare for the meeting, and follow progress of  the main working group. It is expected that the sub-group will start its deliberations on 2 March 2021.

Subject matter expertise. Although not explicitly required, we hope that most sub-working group members have at least a working knowledge of RZ-LGRs and variant management.

Expression of Interest. If you are interested to participate in the sub-working group please respond to the list (ccpdp4-idnwg at icann.org<mailto:ccpdp4-idnwg at icann.org>) or to Joke.Braeken at icann.org<mailto:Joke.Braeken at icann.org> , Kimberly.Carlson at icann.org<mailto:Kimberly.Carlson at icann.org> or Bart.Boswinkel at icann.org<mailto:Bart.Boswinkel at icann.org> by Friday 5 February 23.59 UTC. At the WG meeting on 9 February, 2021 the sub-working group will be announced and appointed. After the call has been effectuated, staff will create a separate email list for ease of communication and the sub-working group members will be subscribed to that email list.

Chair/Vice-Chair. Please note that Alireza has already kindly accepted to be chair of this group and will be formally appointed as such by the Chair and Vice-Chair of the WG. To ensure continuity, one of the first tasks of the sub-group will be to nominate a Vice-Chair.  Once the sub-group is established, a more detailed announcement on selection of vice-chair will follow. The Chair and Vice-Chair of the sub-group, will meet regularly with the Chair and Vice-Chair of the full WG.
