[ccwg-internet-governance] CCWG-IG call of Friday, May 23

I'm not schooled in the intricacies of the charter so forgive the ignorance here. Does a WS proposal that is being submitted on behalf of the CCWG-IG as opposed to ICANN Org have to get sign off from the chartering organizations? And does that change with the eventual move to the new organization framework?

I want to make sure we don't expose ourselves as people already look at this group with a critical eye.

Mary, brilliant.

You captured my concern perfectly. I meant that we should not talk about DNSSec, for instance, or how to market a gTLD.

Dear All,

I am so sorry for missing the call.

I have listened to the recording of the productive meeting.

I support the suggestion that we submit a workshop proposal for the 2018 IGF along the line of Marilyn's suggested topic. However, I do not understand what 'CCWG-IG NOT TOO MUCH OF ICANN'' means. Is this working group not ICANN based?

By our Charter, are we not
a.. acting as the bridge between ICANN and the rest of IG processes and Ecosystem?
b .briefing ICANN Community of possible threats ICANN faces and could possibly face within the IG space including advising on possible solutions?

If the answers to these questions are in the affirmative, it then behoves us to propose a workshop that has an undertone of ICANN's interest and portrays that the multi-stakeholders process works.

Going forward with Marilyn's suggested topic, I think we could tweak it to elicit how the outcomes have impacted on ICANN processes or how ICANN's processes have influenced other IG initiatives and processes for these 12 years, eg at local levels.

Please correct me if I am wrong in my assumptions.

Dear Marilyn,

thanks for kicking off the discussion on the proposal of a workshop. We have very little time to make a decision on this and your proposal is currently the only one on the table. I had thought we might wish to have a workshop about GDPR and how this affects ICANN and WHOIS, but Nigel has advised us that ICANN itself might propose this topic.

Thus may I ask that people who have missed the call could listen to its recording which has been uploaded to the call's agenda page on https://community.icann.org/x/mR8FBQ<https://nam05.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcommunity.icann.org%2Fx%2FmR8FBQ&data=02%7C01%7C%7Cb4c22da196594ca2d18d08d5c133c8a2%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C636627350505531711&sdata=a8Lb7n5IQKdZJTGZ32L4Uvoej%2BY8yAbru5qknyJzgpM%3D&reserved=0>
The first half contains very interesting updates on IG issues. The second half focusses on Marilyn's proposal. Please comment so we can put together a draft within the next three days.

Thanks to those who attended the call and contributed.

I made a proposal that the Wshop proposal be a town hall to take stock of achievements to date on key issues identified in early days, and a modification was offered to add in looking ahead to such topics as IA, IOT, Big Data, etc.

We discussed whether we are about ICANN and learned that ICANN has both an Open Forum and also some workshop proposals [although I am not sure that ICANN can submit workshop proposals, as they are part of the MAG and MAG members cannot submit workshop proposals] , but also a Day Zero event.

We shouldn't' in my view think that ICANN can dominate the IGF and indeed, there will be proposals about ICANN.

BUT, if we move forward on this CCWG _ IG, I'd like to propose that we invite the two senior Ambassadors who attended in Brazil as co moderators and do a looking back and looking ahead 90 minute workshop, but without panelists, using the NetMundial 'from the floor' approach.

I do suggest to iCANN to "cool" their jets on proposing too many workshops, and remember that they are a MAG member.
