The National and Regional IGFs will host a briefing tomorrow/during which we are launching a survey which the NRIs ut also individuals can respond to.

See below re an email regarding the survey, and how to register for tomorrow's briefing. I can also provide a further update or response to questions.

The survey will accept responses from an organization, such as this group at ICANN, or from individuals, as well as the NRIs themselves.

....exerpted from an email to the NRI Task Force list which is a public list. ...

I am writing on behalf of the group of the few NRIs (NRIs task force) that found important that the NRIs respond to the consultations on the 5th recommendation of the Report of the High-Level Panel on Digital Cooperation (HLPDC)<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.global-cooperation.digital%2FGCD%2FNavigation%2FEN%2FFollow-up%2Ffollow-up.html&data=02%7C01%7C%7C7a57bdf3710848df83b008d7f0239de3%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637241908080923822&sdata=KJBRjG%2FxxDUq4sL6m93t2vTExIKLqXVF%2BMEJEmh3roU%3D&reserved=0>, currently underway. The HLDPC Report consultations ask for feedback from the community. This feedback will be communicated to the office of the UN Secretary-General that will make decision on the future global mechanism for digital cooperation. One of the possible mechanisms in the report relates to an advanced model of the IGF (called the IGF Plus).
The NRIs task force wants to explore the views of the NRIs communities regarding the IGF Plus model and to communicate the response to the co-champions of the HLPDC Report’s recommendation 5A/B: Governments of Germany and United Arab Emirates, that will further communicate all received inputs to the office of the UN Secretary-General.
[For now, the NRIs task force is composed of volunteers from the following NRIs: Italy IGF, IGF-USA, EuroDIG, The Gambia IGF, Canada IGF, Quebec IGF, Arab IGF, APrIGF, African IGF, SEEDIG, West African IGF.]

The NRIs task force worked for several weeks very intensively on developing a survey that the broader NRIs communities can respond to. The survey focused on the IGF Plus, is open to all individuals and organizations to respond to until 21 May. The timeline is very tight, because the latest deadline for the inputs to be sent to the co-champions, is the first week of June. The survey will be officially launched tomorrow, 5 May, during the live webinar that will be hosted at 14 pm UTC.

The webinar will be hosted by the NRIs task force. Dr Jovan Kurbalija will present the basics of the HLPDC Report and remind us all on the IGF Plus model and where the NRIs were referenced. The NRIs task force will walk us through the survey and explain why it is important that we respond to the survey.

It would be much appreciated and of a great help if you could join this webinar tomorrow and also invite your communities to join.

The task force would be most grateful if you would share the webinar invitation with your respected communities through your mailing lists and invite colleagues to join the call tomorrow. A possible draft of the invitation to be disseminated through your mailing lists is suggested below. But please be free to completely disregard the draft and compose the invitation on other way, as you know the best the pulse of your communities.

Thank you for your time and please stay safe. I hope you will join the webinar tomorrow. I will most certainly join to listen in. It was such a pleasure to see the NRIs colleagues working as a self-organized group on this challenging task. I am hoping that many of you will join them. Just to be clear once again: this process is led by the NRIs task force and the IGF Secretariat was asked to help with basic secretariat’s function (communication and Zoom hosting of meetings).

Best regards,

Subject: Invitation to all NRIs communities to join the NRIs process on responding to the consultations on the Report of the High-Level Panel on Digital Cooperation and proposed advanced model of the IGF

Dear All,

The United Nations Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel on Digital Cooperation (HLPDC)<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdigitalcooperation.org%2F&data=02%7C01%7C%7C7a57bdf3710848df83b008d7f0239de3%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637241908080923822&sdata=a0r99pNxCpHTsIAgkf00ZXXiCZAQKRzrEKE0k2FM%2Bqc%3D&reserved=0> submitted the report ‘’The Age of Digital Interdependence’’. Report’s recommendation 5 A/B proposes possible models for the global digital cooperation. Among these models, proposed is also an advanced Internet Governance Forum (IGF Plus). The office of the Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General, the Governments of Germany and the United Arab Emirates were named as “Champions”<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.global-cooperation.digital%2FGCD%2FNavigation%2FEN%2FFollow-up%2Ffollow-up.html&data=02%7C01%7C%7C7a57bdf3710848df83b008d7f0239de3%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637241908080933816&sdata=5D2k7wL6Iwq4%2BS7p2OpYHLU66PCh6aXb19xrDxgdSds%3D&reserved=0> to facilitate the follow-up process on the recommendation 5.

Several NRIs find as important that the NRIs also respond to these consultations. Tomorrow, 5 May at 14 pm UTC during the live webinar, these NRIs will explain the importance of the NRIs response to these consultations and introduce the process for developing the consolidated NRIs response. A former co-director of the HLPDC Secretariat and ex-officio Panel member, Dr Jovan Kurbalija, will be the special guest, reminding on basics of the HLPDC’s Recommendation 5 A/B. You are cordially invited and encouraged to join this webinar.
