<br>It is completely unacceptable to allow Verisign to increase .com domain prices. This is clearly a crony money grab, exploiting the popularity of the .com TLD; there is no technical justification for this. This is the same kind of narrow-minded, short term greed that will actually impede the opportunities to generate revenue. Instead of trying to screw the market by milking as much revenue out of a scarce resource, why not recognize the by focusing instead on improving the availability, efficiency, security, and performance of the internet will in fact create more value, and, hence, more opportunities to generate revenue? Accessibility has been the cornerstone of transforming the internet from an interesting, successful experiment in computer science into a transformation engine of world-wide commerce. Centralization is anathema to the essence of the internet; anything that impedes to open nature of the internet diminishes it value as a means of facilitating innovation in commerce.

No rational person has an argument with paying for the services they use, nor do they object to paying proportional to value. What ICANN must not lose sight of is where the true value of the internet lies; it is not in providing tiers of service that partition the internet with a class hierarchy. The internet's value is in its openness, it's dynamism, in it's ability to respond and adapt to changing demands by encouraging the many solutions to quickly present themselves and demonstrate their worth.
