<p class="MsoNormal">We also discussed the selection of the GNSO Council participant for the 2020 ICANN Leadership Program. I apologize for missing the original email announcement and not flagging this earlier, which prevented us from handing the selection
process to the GNSO Council’s Standing Selection Committee (SSC).<u></u><u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><u></u> <u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">With the deadline upon us, we did not feel like we could properly and fairly assess all three candidates in the time remaining, but we also didn’t want to miss the opportunity to send one of those who expressed interest. Therefore, we decided
to have our Secretariat (Nathalie) randomize the three names using the random list generator at
<a href="http://www.random.org" target="_blank">www.random.org</a> to identify our primary and alternate, as requested by the organizers.<u></u><u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><u></u> <u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The randomized list returned in the order of Carlton, Sebastian and Farrell, so Carlton will be our appointee and Sebastian will be the alternate.<u></u><u></u></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">For this program, 1 (one) seat is reserved for a representative from the GNSO Council. The program is designed for current <i><u>and</u> </i>incoming leaders, helping to increase
understanding of the complexity of ICANN and to develop facilitation skills, as well as building a network with other leaders. We are aware that understanding ICANN as an organization, the topics discussed within ICANN, and interaction within other stakeholder
groups can be challenging for incoming leaders, but sometimes also for experienced leaders. ICANN and the community are making considerable efforts in order to help incoming leaders have a good start to their terms and to provide current leaders the opportunity
