All,

Kindly find below the informal notes as taken during the CWG-UCTN meeting today, 23 May 2017 at 20 UTC.

Notes:

1. Welcome and roll call

2. Public comment summary

Analysis of the comments.
The comments refer to 3 categories:
1. recommendations of the CWG
2. text of the Interim Report
3. Proposals and rationales with respect to use of 2-letter codes, 3-letter codes and full names of country and territory names.

first category
The majority of those that commented on the recommendations, were in favour of closing the group, and having a consolidated effort after closing this group. The work of this group should continue, as an all-inclusive dialogue.
chartering organisations and broader group should have a further discussion on how they want to structure future work in this area.

second category
no suggestions to change the text itself. Suggestions were more on the use of 2 and 3-letter codes, than on the text of the recommendations themselves.
Jaap Akkerhuis suggested to clarify parts of the framed text in section 1.
That suggested change will be included in the next version of this document

third category
Diverse set of alternatives or proposals on how to deal with the 2-letter codes.
See annex E. Next group should be informed of all the comments received. That is why we included Annex E. The substance of 2-letter codes is very diverse. Going over the debate will take quite some time.

3. Update interim report / final report

executive summary. red-lined version with the proposed changes was shared. Questions are welcome via the mailing list.

4. & 5. Next call and Next steps

first reading of the changes in the text and a proposed way forward. Next call is scheduled in 2 weeks time on Tuesday, 6 June 2017 at 05:00 UTC for 60 minutes.
Subsequent procedures PDP was followed by Annebeth, however mentioned that the work tracks are very difficult to follow, since they cover so many different aspects. A smaller more pointed WG is needed for discussing geographic names.
Individual members should consider whether this could be a way forward.

Bart: the WG is not able to come up with a format of the next steps. There is no uniform recommendation, and it is beyond the scope of this WG. This is something for discussion by the chartering organisations and their respective communities on how to go forward.

You are kindly invited to look at the report, and comment on the mailing list. The report gives an excellent background and input for future work efforts.

Thank you.
