[CWG-Stewardship] [ianatransition] A new proposed US bill?

Robert - I agree that we have to pay very close attention to what is going on in DC. We should consider briefing Congressional staffers ourselves to supplement what ICANN may be saying.

Agree with Philip's analysis of the situation.

IMHO developments to track in Washington D.C. over the coming months
include:

- Efforts by ICANN and others to brief congressional staffers, congressional members, and key think tanks in the DC area in regards to the IANA transition.

- Extent (or not) of bipartisan support for the IANA transition as proposed by the communities

- Report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) on ICANN/IANA.
Report once released will likely form the basis of one or more congressional hearings.

- Efforts my congressional members to introduce bills and/or amendments related to IANA/ICANN issues in the appropriations process. NTIA funding, for instance could be made conditional to changes to IANA and/or ICANN

regards

Robert
