My two cents on .NZ's setup.

It looks good on paper and has been shown to work for .NZ but I think I'm
right in saying that all the separate arms are in the same building and all
the heads of the different arms not only know one another but are actually
quite good friends.

This is obviously great for .NZ but IANA is a very different animal. To
extrapolate .NZ to the global root, you'd need to dig into the details of
any disagreements and see how they were resolved - whether personally or
through process.
