Hi all,

My only sadness, is watching ALAC will once again waste its precious
volunteer resources on this UTTER SHAM of an exercise in uselessness.

ICANN's objectives are fairly straightforward. This ASININE periodic ritual
of a strategic plan is simply a cruel reminder of how little ICANN has
actually followed any of its *previous* strategic plans. This is nothing
less than a deliberate diversion of resources intended to keep the
volunteer community un-focused and off-guard. It produces reams of
well-meaning promises that have absolutely no relation to the core of what
ICANN is actually entrusted to do -- manage critical Internet resources and
protect the public interest. It is a public relations exercise with zero
relationship to the ICANN reality, and ALAC's continued participation in it
simply offers the process credibility it has no rights to.

I think there have now been three strategic plans during my relatively
brief tenure here. The first two did NOTHING to advance (At-Large's PoV of)
the public interest. Oh wow, the new one claims to start from scratch and
features some outside consultants. So it MUST be better.

Meanwhile, Garth has discovered a trove of new information about massive
breaches of public trust by ICANN -- breaches that were never envisioned by
all the previous strategic plans, yet happen anyway. THIS is what matters
to our community, not fullsome words that will be heeded or ignored by
Board and staff at their whim just as they always have been.

Not only will I gladly miss this complete waste of time, but I consider the
ALAC's participation in this top-down circus of manipulation to be a source
of shame. I am once again reminded of Einstein's definition of insanity;
doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

- Evan
