Hi all,

 

For my part, I don't see any issue with allowing for this extension if it is
needed, but we will need to act quickly thereafter so that we don't have our
staff support working into the holiday period because we are missing our
first date which had been well-published.

Dear Wolf-Ulrich and Amr,

 

As there are no procedures that prescribe the time period required for the
nominations for the election/selection of Chair and Vice Chair (just that
ideally they should be selected by the beginning of 2015), there doesn't
appear to be any reason that we cannot extend the time period in this case.
Would a one-week extension - that is, until Friday, 12 December - provide
enough time?

If there are no nominations made before today's deadline, I was wondering if
an extension to the nominating period could be set, even if just for a few
days. I am personally working on making one, but would like some time to
confer with the NCUC membership first.

This is a reminder that per the SCI Charter, each December the SCI has to
nominate, select and (if necessary) elect a Chair and Vice Chair for the
following year. Only primary members of the SCI (i.e. no alternates) are
eligible to stand for either position.  Per the Charter, the Chair and Vice
Chair shall serve for a 1-year term with the option to continue for a second
1-year term.   

 

Ron Andruff has served two 1-year terms and thus is term-limited and cannot
continue in the position in 2015. The SCI therefore needs at least one
volunteer/nominee for Chair for 2015.  If there is more than one
nominee/volunteer for Chair, the Charter prescribes how an election will
then be run: https://community.icann.org/x/L4Hg

 

Cintra Sooknanan will have served served 1 term as Vice Chair as of the end
of 2014 and is eligible to continue for a second 1-year term.   For the
avoidance of doubt, time served as Vice Chair shall not prohibit the Vice
Chair from serving as Chair.  If there is more than one nominee/volunteer
for Vice Chair an election will be run as per the Charter.

 

Interested SCI members should volunteer or submit nominations for either the
Chair or Vice Chair position.  Please send all candidate nominations
(including self-nominations) to this list not later than **Friday, 05
December.**
