[Gnso-newgtld-wg-wt5] A proposal for geographic names not included in the 2012 AGB

Thankyou for these references. They confirm the complexity and sensitivity of the issue.
Actually, I doubt that WT5 could take all that detail on board at such short notice.

I have been aware of related issues for several years and have come to the conclusion that ALL geographical terms should be protected or reserved (including ISO 4217 and geographical indications) . WT5 should focus on the limited numbers of names that need not be protected. For all other geographical terms, ICANN should accept applications only from, or endorsed by, the relevant national or local authorities. Otherwise, the domain should not be delegated.

ICANN must not be in the position of ’taking sides’ in such matters.
