Hey Liz,

As I'm , sure you well know SOI is a prerequisite to participate as a member in the GNSO PDP process and is required to be up to date and accurate, important that we don't give the impression to newcomers that this is an option or a step that can be left until later. Until we have the SOI situation started no work can begin in earnest.

The SOI task is top of the pile today because it is interesting to know what people have done, what experience they have and what they bring to the table.  It is not a tool for telling people they are somehow dissembling or they don’t fit or that they are not independent or aligned or whatever!  Alan Greenberg’s examples of many of us who, over many years, have had lots of different iterations to our career is a good thing.  It shows a mature industry.

However, I have been trying to update mine for several days now and the log in/interface/usability of the systems leaves rather a lot of be desired.   Naturally I asked for help through the automated email system and still haven’t got a new log in!  That, of course, will be resolved through some simple help steps.  It should be dead easy for people to keep their profile up to date but it isn’t…yet.  There are recommendations in the GNSO Review that will, hopefully, be actioned.  Excellent GNSO staff are also trying to find a way to make it easier.

This is a perfect opportunity also for outreach…are there potential stakeholder group members who could be convinced to rejoin a group; is there an opportunity to bring in new members; is there a chance to help new members meet other people when language, culture and demographics might mitigate against that happening?

It will become perfectly clear in the course of the work what people’s interests are and how they approach a problem to be solved.  It is likely more beneficial to focus on the work and serious questions that need addressing and let the SOIs get updated as soon as people can readily access the system.
