Dear GNSO Review Working Group members,

This note is to let you know that staff has created this mailing list for this Working Group (WG) to facilitate our work. Thank you all for volunteering to join the WG! Please see below a list of suggestions and requests that we hope you can respond to at your earliest convenience:

1. First WG organizational meeting:

As you know, the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) Council adopted the Charter of the GNSO Review WG during its meeting on 21 July 2016. This WG is tasked to develop an implementation plan for the GNSO Review recommendations which were recently adopted by the ICANN Board.

To that end, staff proposes that a first organizational meeting of the DT be held during the week of 12 September, during which we can discuss the scope of our work, proposed mechanisms to achieve the timeline and frequency of meetings. We therefore request that you fill out this Doodle poll as soon as possible, but no later than Thursday, 08 September: http://doodle.com/poll/rvfb5yct6vweuu49.

Please NOTE: this poll is to schedule the first WG meeting only. However, if there are specific times going forward for these days of the week for which you will have a standing conflict, please indicate this in the Comments section at the bottom of the poll.

2. Initial notes on the WG’s work:

The GNSO Review WG will be responsible for developing an implementation plan, containing a realistic timeline for the implementation, definition of desired outcomes and a way to measure current state as well as progress toward the desired outcome for the GNSO Review recommendations adopted by the ICANN Board (thirty-four (34) recommendations of the Final Report of the Independent Examiner (i.e. all recommendations excluding recommendations 23 and 32). This implementation plan is to be submitted to the GNSO Council for consideration at the GNSO Council meeting at ICANN57 at the latest in order to meet the Board set objective of ‘an implementation plan, containing a realistic timeline for the implementation, definition of desired outcomes and a way to measure current state as well as progress toward the desired outcome, shall be submitted to the Board as soon as possible, but no later than six (6) months after the adoption of this resolution’[1] i.e., December 2016. Following the approval of the implementation plan, the WG is also expected to execute and oversee the implementation of the GNSO Review recommendations unless specified differently in the implementation plan.

For further information and preparation WG members are encouraged to review the following materials:

· Charter

· GNSO Review Recommendations

· Independent Examiner Final Report

· Frequently Asked Questions

3. WG members’ check-in

Please see the list of members, participants, and observers on the WG Wiki at https://community.icann.org/x/ZhmsAw that also have been subscribed to this mailing list; if you see that someone’s name has been omitted or added in error, please let us know as soon as possible. Each GNSO Stakeholder Group and/or Constituency provides one primary and one alternate member to serve on the GNSO Review Working Group. In addition to these appointed members, the WG has participants and observers.  Please note that members and participants are expected to attend conference calls and to actively participate in online discussions.  They also must submit a Statement of Interest per Section 5.0 of the GNSO Operating Procedures.  Observers can follow the group's work on the mailing list but can neither send to the mailing list nor participate actively in the calls.  Please note you can change your status from observer to participant, simply by emailing your request to the GNSO Secretariat (gnso-secs at icann.org).

Thanks so much for your assistance and we look forward to establishing the first WG meeting!

Kind regards,

Julie

Julie Hedlund, Policy Director
