Thank you for sending these past submissions through, Berry.

Having reviewed these two comments this morning, I believe the Council's concerns regarding the effectiveness of ICANN's global engagement activities remain relevant, and I would suggest we continue to question their value proposition.

I think we need to question the duplication of resources being expended on overlapping/concurrent policy development processes, too. The Council discussed this during our Strategic Planning Session last week and while I don't think we had a consensus view on how this should be addressed, I think the point that a scarcity of policy staff and resources and the need for these to be used appropriately is one that we might be able to agree on.

I hope we can also express our thanks to ICANN for supporting our successful Strategic Planning Session last week, along with our hope that the resources will be available for it to continue during FY19.

I would also like to re-raise a point that I made on our call yesterday. The budget does not make it easy to determine the levels of financial support provided directly to the individual Supporting Organizations and Advisory Groups. I believe that we need to have this information in order to understand how the GNSO is being supported relative to, say (and this is just an example), the ALAC. I suggest we make this point in our comment: we encourage ICANN to examine the resources allocated to the various SO/ACs to ensure they are reasonable, appropriate, and genuinely contribute to ICANN’s core mission.
