During the FY18 cycle, the GNSO requested and was granted two Additional Budget Requests: 1) GNSO Council Strategic Planning Session Pilot Project; and 2) GNSO PDP WG Chairs Support Pilot Project.
For FY19, the GNSO Council is proposing to again request those two successful items, along with a third request to fund a Working Group sign-up and management tool.
Here, the Council will discuss the proposed Additional Budget Requests for FY19.
6.1 – Presentation of discussion topic (Council Leadership)
6.2 – Council Discussion
6.3 – Next Steps

We anticipate that the proposed requests, including a request for a second GNSO Council Strategic Planning Session will be circulated to the GNSO Council shortly.

Thank you for this, Berry.

Could you please let me know if, in the FY19 Budget, there have been resources allocated to there being a GNSO Council Strategic Planning Session in 2019? The closest I could see to this in the budget was this line item under Constituency Travel: "Placeholder for SO-AC Budget Requests - $425,000". Does this encompass the Council's Strategic Planning Session, or is this something that the Council would need to submit an additional budgetary request for if this is something that we would like to see return next year?

If this is something we will need to request — I have a process question. Is this something which we in the SCBO can take forward and draft, or does this suggestion need to be fed back to the Council to work on? I believe the deadline for submitting these additional budgetary requests is 31 January?

The comment close date is listed as 8 March 2018.  Unlike prior GNSO Council public comment submissions, the preferred method this year is to have a draft of comments for the Council’s consideration at a meeting prior to the close of the comment period so that a motion can be adopted.  Therefore, we have until 12 February 2018 to make the Motions and Documents submissions deadline.  The Council is scheduled to meet 22 February 2018.  That gives us three weeks from 22 January to review the budget in detail and formulate a draft of comments.  I cannot speak for the Council leadership, but given the tight timeline, an option exists for Council members to vote on motions via email under special circumstances.  I think our preference should first attempt to make the 12 February deadline and should the SCBO find that it is unable to do so, we can engage Council leadership at that time.

On our next call, we will discuss our future meeting schedule leading up to the deadline.
