Subject: [Gnso-sc-budget] Bullet point on the ICANN Academy
Dear all,
In relation to our bullet point on the ICANN Academy:
● The GNSO Council asks ICANN to re-evaluate the merits of the ICANN Academy programme and to consider whether or not the costs associated with this initiative are reasonable and appropriate for a non-profit organisation, along with whether the participant mix is sufficiently multistakeholder, cross community, and diverse.
We have received two comments:
Heather Forrest: "What direct link/relevance to policy development? Are we suggesting that just because it isn't a GNSO activity it should be canned/scrutinised?"
Donna Austin: "Shouldn't we make the point that we want to see more of the recipients of this program coming forward in leadership roles for PDP WGs. Do we know the stats about who has participated and their contribution. I note that the current Council Chair speaks highly of this program. We also note above the importance of training leaders and that seems inconsistent with the comment here."
In light of this feedback, please can you indicate which of these options you support:
1. Support including the bullet point as-is.
2. Support revising the bullet point - and please provide alternative text.
3. Prefer that this bullet point not be included in our comment.
4. Abstain.
Thank you.
Best wishes,
Ayden
