Dear all,
For information purposes only, please find below a (public) post on Facebook from a community member. This post offers some insights into the number of staff and other resources that have been spent by GSE in sponsoring an event:
"Just back from a joint APTLD75/Middle East DNS Forum. The former was all prepared and run by sole person, that is, yours sincerely; the latter was developed by at least 7 ICANN staff (at least those I communicated with) and run by them + another 5 staff. Some high-flyers ( I guess 4 or 5) were hanging around, too The final count? APTLD75 got 95 participants; ME DNS Forum got a. 40 ones. Some functions really appeared really inspiring, e.g. flying a staffer with a badge printing machine (which was nearly lost en route); a marketing team that seemed to post zero entries; lots of effort spared on getting a giant LCD screen at some unbelievable cost. Small wonder ICANN runs out of cash - I would estimate the frivolous spending to be in the region of USD 15,000-20,000. And this is just one event of many...."
It is possible that this Facebook post is inaccurate or has under-estimated costs. I am not able to confirm that. However, just as the impact of many of ICANN’s engagement activities are neither well understood nor well documented, we have equally little access to information on how much GSE activities cost. This post offers us some insights.
Best wishes,
Ayden
