[Gnso-sc-budget] FW: ICANN News Alert -- DRAFT PTI and IANA FY22 Operating Plan and Budgets

Hi All,

You will have just seen a calendar invite go out to establish the SCBO’s first meeting for the 2020-2021 calendar in regards to ICANN’s FY22 budget and operations. As you may have seen (thread below), the PTI/IANA FY22 budget is open for public comment. In past years, the GNSO Council has submitted a comment, typically in a general nature and in acceptance of the draft budget. You can see prior submissions on the SCBO Wiki page <https://community.icann.org/x/JQNyB> . While the PTI/IANA budget is not directly within the GNSO Council remit as managers of the policy process, it is still important to submit a comment as part of being a decisional participant in the Empowered Community. It also helps the SCBO to set its cadence when ICANN org opens the comment period on its FY22 budget and operations plan.

At the meeting we will review through the budget materials and here is a Google Doc redline <https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ObhLqDewVm-M6iwMkxFv_xCyIasO9p2c/edit>  of last year’s version for the SCBO to contribute to the draft. I ask that no edits be suggested until we have our first meeting.

The comment period closes 30 Nov 2020.

Brief Overview:

Focusing on ICANN's commitment to the multistakeholder model, the ICANN organization seeks Public Comment on the operating plan and budgets for delivering the IANA functions. This is comprised of two components – the Draft FY22 Public Technical Identifiers (PTI) Operating Plan and Budget and the Draft FY22 IANA Operating Plan and Budget. The PTI Operating Plan and Budget outlines the activities to deliver the core IANA functions and associated operational activities to enhance systems and processes. The IANA Operating Plan and Budget is comprised of these PTI activities, plus additional programs and costs associated with overseeing and delivering the IANA functions performed by ICANN in its role as the IANA Functions Operator that are not borne directly by PTI.

ICANN seeks structured feedback on the plans described in these documents to inform these Operating Plans and Budgets being presented to ICANN and PTI Boards.
