[Gnso-ssc] Upcoming selection process - ATRT3 replacement candidates

Dear SSC members,

Staff has prepared a draft survey to support the upcoming ATRT3 selection process for your review (see my previous email below for details). This draft survey is very similar to the one used last year for the original ATRT3 selection process, but this time it will include names of those from the previous selection process who are still available as well as any new candidates who submit applications by the 30 October deadline. If you have any concerns about the format of this survey, please raise them on list before the application deadline of October 30. After that, staff will fill in the candidate names and open the survey for your input.

Note that we have not yet received any new applications through the EOI process, but we will post them as they are received so you can get a head start on reviewing them. You may want to refresh your memory on the existing candidates from the last selection process. Subject: Upcoming selection process - ATRT3 replacement candidates

Dear SSC members,

The GNSO Council has asked the SSC to take on a selection process in the coming weeks related to the re-scheduled start of the Third Review of ICANN Accountability and Transparency (ATRT3)<https://www.icann.org/news/announcement-2017-01-31-en>. I know this is a busy time for many of you with ICANN63 coming up, but this will need to be quite a quick process with action required on your part in the next two weeks (details below). Please fill out this doodle<https://doodle.com/poll/wqfawm2xaqi8iw34> to help us schedule an SSC meeting to complete this process in early November and look out for additional emails with instructions about evaluating the candidates prior to the meeting.

Last year the SSC went through a selection process to recommend candidates for the ATRT3 (details here<https://community.icann.org/display/GSSC/ATRT3>). The start of the ATRT3 was then delayed to allow for conversations and public consultation on the schedule of ICANN reviews (see public comments on short-term<https://www.icann.org/public-comments/specific-reviews-short-term-timeline-2018-05-14-en> and long-term<https://www.icann.org/public-comments/reviews-long-term-timeline-2018-05-14-en> options to adjust the timeline of reviews). ICANN Org is now recommending to the Board<https://www.icann.org/public-comments/reviews-next-steps-2018-09-05-en> that that ATRT3 begin in January 2019. The GNSO has been asked to finalize its slate of candidates by 31 October, but we are working to find a little more flexibility in this deadline.

Some time has passed since the original call for volunteers, and the GNSO is now asking the SSC to ensure that the GNSO has a full slate of candidates to put forward. At a minimum, two of the original primary candidates and at least one of the additional candidates will need to be replaced:

Original primary candidates:
Wolfgang Kleinwaechter (NCUC): Available
Brian Cute (RySG): Replacement needed
Stéphane Van Gelder (RySG): Replacement needed

Original secondary candidates:
Dr. Tatiana Tropina (NCUC): Replacement needed
Michael Karanicolas (NCUC): Available
Adetola Sogbesan (BC): Available
Erica Varlese (RySG): Available

The SSC may also choose to re-evaluate the full slate of secondary candidates in light of new applications to ensure balance of skills and experience in the pool of candidates.

An Expression of Interest is now open<https://gnso.icann.org/en/announcements/announcement-11oct18-en.htm> with a deadline of 30 October. As applications are received, they will be shared with you to review. You will be asked to fill in a SurveyMonkey poll to evaluate the candidates as soon as the deadline has passed. The SSC will then complete the selection process in a meeting scheduled in early November (please complete the doodle<https://doodle.com/poll/wqfawm2xaqi8iw34> to assist with scheduling).
