In a message on the Chapter Leaders forum I asked a similar question but
understood it to be irrelevant. Andrew Sullivan clarified that Ethos
Capital has fully acquired PIR. The proceeds from the sale of PIR would
form a corpus fund which would sustain the Internet Society in the long
term. The of slices does not arise.

It is a wise decision so far as the rationale is to steer clear of various
inevitable controversies associated with commercial pursuits. The Internet
Society has huge public interest responsibilities, but (forgive me for the
pun), the Public Interest Registry has been a distraction due to the
commercial components associated with the operation of a Registry.

It might have been preferable to have insisted on a Acquisition Value + a
recurrent share of revenues / profits, but in a complex legal environment,
even such an arrangement would have perpetuated the legal liabilities.
