Good decision, David. Thanks. This should be disseminated ASAP, hopefully by ICANN announcement. I let Kathy Kleiman (NCUC) know, since we were discussing some aspects of the IRP just after this came out.

In order to ensure that the holiday-period-hiatus enjoyed by a number of community members does not impede their ability to consider commenting on the updated supplementary rules the comment period will be extended by 15 days to 23:59 UTC on January 25.

This is to afford ample opportunity to comment following Mike’s request to that effect.

That should still afford sufficient time for staff to compile a report and give us time to reflect on comments prior to ICANN58.

A thirty day extension does not appear necessary given the fact that the comment period was to run for the standard 42 day period and will now run 57 days. While the holidays are within that period they are in the middle of it and the actual document under review is relatively short – unlike documents we grappled with in WS1.

Also, there have been no other requests for extension. On balance, this seems the best approach to handling Mike’s request.

I will not be able to attend this call (at 5a.m. in California), but I would like to request that we request Staff to extend this public comment period. This is a very important topic, which imho has been rushed through this working group already, and should not be rushed through public comment over the holiday period. There would be no harm to anyone if the comment period is extended an extra 30 days, so that is my proposal.

Thanks,

Mike

Dear IRP IoT team:

Just a reminder that we have a meeting scheduled later this week – Dec. 16th at 13:00 UTC. A calendar notice has previously been sent.

I am working on an agenda and will forward it by Wednesday but I also want to mention that there are some comments (four so far) coming in to the comments forum for our updated supplementary rules – see: https://forum.icann.org/lists/comments-irp-supp-procedures-28nov16/

Meantime,

Best wishes
