I will add what we talked about the Similarity Principle to which we are going to use the Unicode PDF charts to establish visual similarity. I will also add the definition of visual similarity to our work document, that is, the code points that were designed to be visually identical by the Unicode Consortium.

Here's what happened in the second half of the meeting:

We continued reviewing the Principles.

·         We reviewed Principle 2) Semantics, and made some changes.  In particular, it was felt that whether a particular variation should be considered depends on how large a segment of the user community would consider it a variant, as opposed to something entirely different.  (We decided that establishing exactly what "large enough" was should wait until later.) DT: I believe I agree with this approach. Build a candidate list first, then finalized with a thorough analysis.
·         On Principle 4 (Inclusion), we observe that the Repertoire group is compiling data on non-MSR-2 codepoints which are used by languages using Latin script.  But decided that we would not look at variants of those until and unless a change to MSR is agreed to. DT: Agreed.

·         We talked about Principle 5 (Symmetry and Transitivity) and decided that, since those are established already at a higher level, we would not touch the wording. DT: Ok. Makes sense.

·         We renamed the 6th Principle from Inclusion (which, as you noted, had already been used) to Universe.  And at Michael's suggestion added the possibility of characters which had migrated between scripts.  (The obvious case is numerals, which migrated to Latin script from Arabic.  While numerals are excluded from our work, it seems possible that there will be other codepoints which are not.) DT: I’m confused. Does the Universe Principle have to do with the scope of scripts we are going to look at, or specific code points? It seems to me that it is the former, so I’m confused about the Latin/Arabic numerals example.
·         After some discussion, we felt that the later sections could be put aside at the moment.  (Some of the text from the Cross-Script Variants section has been moved to the Universe Principle.) DT: OK.


·         We propose to meet again in two weeks, at the same time, but on Thursday. DT: Alright. This is going to be on July 27, so I won’t be able to join. Sarmad may be able to help with providing the virtual meeting space.
·
·         Between now and the meeting, we should start compiling a table of variants.  Initially, we would be looking cross-script variants.  We propose to start by looking at the repertoires identified by the other WGs, and see what is there that would be a variant of what our Repertoire group is finding. DT: Agreed.
