[Latingp] ACTION NEEDED: New version of the response to IP on :Diacritics below a security risk?

Dear colleagues,

I was probably not involved enough in the creation of the response document, but taking a look at the final version now I’m a little bit confused.
IP was asking about our opinion about diacritics below as a security risk and considering letters with diacritics below as variants, but the reply document contains many parts about principles we used to define variants in general not relevant to the case IP was asking about.

Another opinion: Why should letters with diacritics below considered a security risk when in a link, while hyperlinks in general can be misleading to general users, where I doubt that a casual user is checking the URL a link is pointing to (in the status bar) before clicking on it. I think this could lead to the same security risk of diacritics but are not considered because they are out of the scope of the GP.

Examples would be:

May be I’m missing some of the discussions, but that’s just some thoughts that came to my mind.

Hazem Hezzah

I spotted one typo (fixed now). Other than that, I’m good with the latest draft. Thank you.

Dear colleagues,

I have completed my amendments and additions to the letter, and would like to suggest to submit it with additonal formatting and spell-checking only. If any questions in there are redundant or repetitve, I don't think it is any real issue.

Best wishes,

Meikal

  Dear colleagues,

I would like to suggest that we leave out all our emotions. Discussions around the LGR are a complex matter, and the GP is supposed to reflect different views and reflect a certain level of diversity precisely to avoid systemic bias and to find a balanced approach suiting all relevant stakeholders, not just certain industries. I certainly see "good faith efforts" in everyones contributions, but it is always difficult to accurately reflect differing or even opposing views and to even become aware of those differences. Therefore I find it important to voice all our concerns and questions, even if some may not be shared by all members of the GP. Finally there is no harm in being superflous or redundant in our communcation with IP. It is part of their mandate to advice the GPs so there time and efforts are covered for by ICANN.

Regarding the document, I think we have settled most issues, Mirjana, except for some formatting issues. I only need to amend the final paragraph, but I'm looking for some resources and I had asked Dennis again to kindly help me find the resources I had commented on earlier - it is about comments I made regarding hand-writing where I would like to have a clear and written response by IP to settle that debate - also in my own mind (Sorry to hold up things - but I get lost with the constant copying and changing of documents. It completely breaks the chain of transmission of knowledge and certain debates for me.)

  Best wishes,

  Meikal

    Dennis,

I should not have allowed my irritation to descend into sarcasm.

    However, consider the following:

    - You crafted the initial page of the document.

    - Others of us added additional pages. This was the first week of September.

    - Mirjana asked that we have final comment by Monday (yesterday)

    - Late Monday afternoon, you made edits which

    a) deleted everything not written by you

    b) substituted very different wording

I just can't see that as a good-faith effort to be helpful.

Bill, I take issue with your last email. If anything, I was trying to be helpful and move things forward. Please note this document has been idle for the past week waiting to resolve the edits. If the revised version fell short of your expectations you are welcome to observe it, like everyone else.

I also remind you that everyone is expected to behave in a professional manner.

Gosh, Dennis, what a blatant effort to make sure that the IP does not say something which would conflict with your preferred view! I am in awe!

I think what we had (before you ran wild just now) was just fine. Not perfect, but something at would address the issues that several of us had.

I STRONGLY urge that this last bunch of edits be rejected.

    Mirjana,

I made some edits to the doc (in google docs) that may resolve the pending comments. Please review at your convenience.

    Thanks,

    Dear GP members,

We have to send our response to this letter from IP as soon as possible.

Please find in the attachment the response I tried to compile.

Your feedback is expected till Monday. We need IP response till our F2F meeting in Brussels.

I cannot resolve now Meikal and Bill comments, although I have commented it in the document

    https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MHSRol829bhBdxBXpdmYe0uxm-NwJ-EQb3gbOGIFDsA/edit

    My comment was

“I want to remind you that scope of our work is now MSR3. We shall see the IP response to this letter. Anyway some of you, who will be present in Barcelona, will have the opportunity to discuss everything with IP members during 75 minutes working session of the Latin GP with IP open for the community, tentatively on Monday 22 Oct.”

    Regards Mirjana
