Hi Veena

At first, the need to use Traditional Orthography fonts is essential for
proposal, since it discusses display forms such as samvruthokaram, which
does not exist in Modern Orthography. Displaying those well need fonts
supporting traditional orthography  .  Microsoft Karthika is the most
unpopular font in malayalam (and buggy). If you want to use New Orthography
fonts, please use Noto Sans Malayalam by by Google in New Orthography
referring areas.

In addition , please note

1. Malayalam Does not have a clear division Modern and traditional
Orthography. Every Print publication uses at least 500-650 conjuncts
character set
2. Most popular Unicode fonts on the web are traditional Orthography fonts.
(Noto by Google in Android is the only exception, since Android does not
provide a font installation option)
