Hope you all are fine and keeping safe in this pandemic situation. Thank you again for the extensive work done by you and the contribution towards the development of Root Zone Label Generation Rules (RZ-LGR). With the availability of this detailed script-level analysis, it is now also possible to develop script-based Reference LGRs for the use at the second level. Second-level rules are used for generating a &ldquolabel&rdquo in a domain name under a top-level domain (TLD), e.g. &ldquowww.label.TLD&rdquo .

Reference LGRs for the second level are developed and published by ICANN organization for the generic top-level domain (gTLD) registries, which would like to offer IDN registrations in the particular language or script, to refer to as they design their respective IDN tables. This also helps inform registries how ICANN org tests the IDN tables for security and stability, bringing more transparency into this process. For this purpose, ICANN org is developing additional Reference LGRs for the second level using the guidelines, utilizing the analysis done by the NBGP and possibly adding digits and hyphen, as latter are not allowed for RZ-LGR. In addition to script-based LGRs for the second level, we are also developing some high volume language-based LGRs i.e. Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Hebrew, Thai. We will continue developing more reference LGRs to match the needs.

For this batch, we would like to invite all of you to review the Reference LGRs for the second level for nine Neo-Brahmi scripts and Hindi language. For each script/language, Pitinan have already shared both the formal XML and its corresponding more readable HTML version, along with the short questionnaire to respective NBGP members to provide comments and feedback. The same will also be sent in next email by Pitinan for the entire community in NBGP .

The Reference LGRs being developed are planned to be published for public comments in August 2020. Therefore, Members are required to provide feedback by 31 July 2020, or earlier, it would be highly appreciated. It might be useful to set up a few NBGP meetings with in this month. We are also planning to setup NBGP call for feedback and confirmation .

Talk to all of you soon.
