Dear Strategic Priority Subgroup,

Please find below answers to the requests for clarifications that were formulated at the Brussels face-to-face meeting #3:

  1. provide a summary of the Board WG’s (BWG-RDS) current composition and remit
  2. Where can meeting notes or archives of BWG sessions be found?

This question was asked by the Strategic Priority Subgroup in April, and responded to on 13 April 2018 (see attached). The original response is still accurate, but has been updated it with a few more recent Correspondence letters that are highlighted in bold.

In July 2015, the ICANN Board formed<https://www.icann.org/resources/board-material/minutes-2015-07-28-en#1.d> a Board Working Group on Registration Data Directory Services (BWG-RDS) to (i) liaise with the GNSO on the policy development process to examine the EWG’s recommended model and propose policies to support the creation of the next generation registration directory services, and (ii) oversee the implementation of the remaining projects arising from the Action Plan adopted by the Board in response to the first WHOIS Review Team’s recommendations.
The Board meets with the GNSO Council at ICANN meetings and, as relevant, discusses the GNSO PDP on registration data directory services. The latest communication<https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/correspondence/chalaby-to-forrest-et-al-23mar18-en.pdf> from the Board to the GNSO Council on this topic is as follows
23 March 2018, ICANN Board to GNSO<https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/correspondence/chalaby-to-forrest-et-al-23mar18-en.pdf> regarding meeting on the topic of the Temporary Specification
25 May 2018, ICANN Board to GNSO<https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/correspondence/chalaby-to-forrest-25may18.pdf> notifying them of Temporary Specification adoption
22 June 2018, GNSO to ICANN Board<https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/correspondence/forrest-austin-dammak-to-chalaby-22jun18-en.pdf> with questions arising from initiating the EPDP
24 June 2018, ICANN Board to GNSO<https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/correspondence/chalaby-to-forrest-et-al-24jun18-en.pdf> responding to previous GNSO correspondence containing EPDP related questions
12 July 2018, GNSO to ICANN Board<https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/correspondence/forrest-et-al-to-chalaby-12jul18-en.pdf> requesting Board liaison appointments to EPDP
18 July 2018, ICANN Board to GNSO<https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/correspondence/chalaby-to-forrest-18jul18-en.pdf> regarding Board liaison appointments to EPDP

Akinori Maemura, Cherine Chalaby, Chris Disspain and Kaveh Ranjbar are members of the BWG-RDS. Note that the composition also included Markus Krummer, Rinalia Abdul Rahim and Steve Crocker – their terms ended in 2017.

Regarding item (ii), the BWG-RDS received regular briefings from ICANN org regarding status of various implementation activities per the Board adopted Action Plan. The Board Working Group<https://www.icann.org/resources/board-material/resolutions-2015-07-28-en#1.d> has a Charter to provide a framework and guide for its work. With respect to minutes, most working groups tend not to have minutes, as they are not decisional bodies and are not empowered to make decisions, only to give guidance to the Board on areas where the Board should take an action, or to help provide oversight to ICANN org.

Thank you,

Kind regards

Alice
