[registration-issues-wg] Fwd: Stop the Price Increase of .com

Hi Michele,

While I understand the squeeze on small business (and have frequently been
in that place myself), my point is that the cost of a domain is dwarfed by
the cost of hosting, design, content development, adwords, security,
webmasters and other elements of maintaining an Internet presence. A domain
name trebling from, say, $18 to $54 per year would hardly kill even a small
business that sought to have its own Internet presence.

In any case, I said prices *could* treble without disastrous effect. That's
not likely to happen. The ALAC-relevant issue that a .com price raise does
not significantly affect the constituency of end-users, and in return for a
small hit to registrants offers the potential to liberate large numbers of
previously-locked-away domains (which will reduce the cost for some
registrants because they'll no longer need to buy from a speculator). This
is a benefit to both end users and registrants.
