I think the idea of agreeing on a commonly understood lexicon is very useful, especially when discussing WHOIS, because what we typically may think of as generic terms can mean very different things to different people. That said, I have not found many “agreed” definitions to be readily found or documented in areas that would be useful to this team. <o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12pt;"><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; color: rgb(23, 55, 94);"><o:p> </o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12pt;"><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; color: rgb(23, 55, 94);">I do have a thought about jump-starting the process -- Recently I had a similar need and found it useful to come up with “working definitions” that could be tweaked, massaged, or totally re-written by a larger group. With that in mind, I’d like to toss out the attached draft for the group’s consideration, merely to start the process. I used definitions that have been used in previous ICANN work where I found helpful references, and searched elsewhere for other terms. My sources are admittedly “US-centric” as reflects my background, so other perspectives and useful sources would be very good to include. They are not intended as “approved” ICANN definitions.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12pt;"><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; color: rgb(23, 55, 94);"><o:p> </o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12pt;"><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; color: rgb(23, 55, 94);">Please feel free to disregard this and start elsewhere, but I hope you find it useful.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12pt;"><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; color: rgb(23, 55, 94);"><o:p> </o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12pt;"><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; color: rgb(23, 55, 94);">Best regards, Liz <o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12pt;"><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; color: rgb(31, 73, 125);"><o:p> </o:p></span></div><div><div style="border-right: medium none; border-width: 1pt medium medium; border-style: solid none none; border-color: rgb(181, 196, 223) -moz-use-text-color -moz-use-text-color; padding: 3pt 0in 0in;"><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12pt;"><b><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: "Tahoma","sans-serif";">From:</span></b><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: "Tahoma","sans-serif";"> <a href="mailto:rt4-whois-bounces@icann.org">rt4-whois-bounces@icann.org</a> [<a href="mailto:rt4-whois-bounces@icann.org">mailto:rt4-whois-bounces@icann.org</a>] <b>On Behalf Of </b>Emily Taylor<br><b>Sent:</b> Saturday, December 18, 2010 1:44 AM<br><b>To:</b> <a href="mailto:rt4-whois@icann.org">rt4-whois@icann.org</a><br><b>Subject:</b> [Rt4-whois] Draft agenda for London<o:p></o:p></span></div></div></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12pt;"><o:p> </o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12pt;">Dear All<o:p></o:p></div><div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12pt;"><o:p> </o:p></div></div><div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12pt;">Thanks, Alice, for circulating the draft agenda for London.<o:p></o:p></div></div><div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12pt;"><o:p> </o:p></div></div><div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12pt;">I just want to emphasise that this is very much a draft, and I encourage you all to make comments or suggestions on the list and we can then foster a discussion about any points that arise, whether about substantive agenda items or logistics.<o:p></o:p></div></div><div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12pt;"><o:p> </o:p></div></div><div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12pt;">Kind regards<o:p></o:p></div></div><div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12pt;"><o:p> </o:p></div></div><div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12pt;">Emily<o:p></o:p></div></div><div><div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12pt;"><img id="_x0000_i1025" src="http://www.etlaw.co.uk/images/stories/etlaw/logo310.gif" alt="Emily Taylor Consultant (Internet Law and Governance)" height="47" width="310"><o:p></o:p></div><div>76 Temple Road, Oxford OX4 2EZ UK <br>telephone: <b>01865 582 811</b> mobile: <b>07540 049 322</b> <br><a target="_blank" href="mailto:emily.taylor@etlaw.co.uk"><b>emily.taylor@etlaw.co.uk</b></a> <a target="_blank" href="http://www.etlaw.co.uk"><b>www.etlaw.co.uk</b></a><o:p></o:p></div></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12pt;"><o:p> </o:p></div></div></div><hr>_______________________________________________<br>
