Brief Overview:

On 1 March 2019, the ICANN Board took action on the Final Recommendations produced by the Competition, Consumer Trust, and Consumer Choice Review Team (CCT-RT) – see https://www.icann.org/resources/board-material/resolutions-2019-03-01-en <https://newsalerts.icann.org/f00Wd0P0pW000R22CNE2L00> and directed ICANN org to "develop and submit to the Board a plan for the implementation of the accepted recommendations".

The Board resolution called for the plan to be completed and provided to the community for consideration no later than six months after Board action. The plan for implementation <https://newsalerts.icann.org/dd0PL0XNW20Ep00R03020C0> provides an overview of implementation activities to be undertaken, where possible, highlights dependencies, and enumerates resources requirements (if any). It sets out the approach for future implementation of the six CCT-RT recommendations the Board resolved to accept and assembles estimates that are directional for understanding.

Community input is requested to determine whether the path suggested by ICANN org to implement the six Competition, Consumer Trust, and Consumer Choice Review Team (CCT-RT) recommendations the Board resolved to accept on 1 March 2019 is reasonable in the context of the intent of CCT-RT. Additionally, community feedback is invited on the next steps for accepted recommendations.

In exercising its fiduciary duty, the Board intends to consider the proposed plan for implementation as well as community feedback received on the proposed path forward and considerations specific to each recommendation. Once the community input adequately considered, the ICANN Board will direct ICANN org to produce a detailed implementation plan that results in the implementation of recommendations 1, 17, 21, 22, 30, 31, including any adjustments the input received through the public comment proceeding may potentially prompt. Further implementation details, including resources availability, scheduling, will be supplemented with specific details and budget plans once the implementation steps are underway.

About ICANN

ICANN’s mission is to help ensure a stable, secure, and unified global Internet. To reach another person on the Internet, you need to type an address – a name or a number – into your computer or other device. That address must be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN helps coordinate and support these unique identifiers across the world. ICANN was formed in 1998 as a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation with a community of participants from all over the world.
