[technology taskforce] At-Large Website - Google Search Update

Hi Satish,

Laura is on a deserved vacation this week and I’ll be happy to respond in her place:

What is the periodicity of updating the search database? Is it on a continuous basis or at an interval (such as daily or hourly)?
We are using Google custom search and our search database is a Google search database. Updating the search database is based upon Google crawling and indexing our site which is not documented.
What is the implicit sort order of the result presented? Is is relevance, date, or some other order?
We currently sort on both relevancy and date.
Some of the familiar Google search operators (filetype:, - etc) seem to work. Is this an undocumented feature or is there a list of supported operators available somewhere?
Google haven’t officially declared all the search operators and their uses but following are some which may be helpful.

1. http://www.googleguide.com/advanced_operators_reference.html

2. https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/2466433?hl=en

3. https://bynd.com/news-ideas/google-advanced-search-comprehensive-list-google-search-operators/

4. https://supple.com.au/tools/google-advanced-search-operators/

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Thanks Laura. Thanks for the work on this.

The Site Search appears to work well (after a not-too-systematic round of testing). I have the following queries:

1. What is the periodicity of updating the search database? Is it on a continuous basis or at an interval (such as daily or hourly)?

2. What is the implicit sort order of the result presented? Is is relevance, date, or some other order?

3. Some of the familiar Google search operators (filetype:, - etc) seem to work. Is this an undocumented feature or is there a list of supported operators available somewhere ?

Dear At-Large community members,

You may have heard Google’s announcement to retire Google Site Search and our need to move to Google’s Customer Site Search on the At-Large and ICANN websites by 30 July. You can read more about it on the ICANN blog post here[icann.org].

We are pleased to inform you that this work has been completed and tested for the At-Large website. The testing site, https://atlarge-staging.icann.org/[atlarge-staging.icann.org] is now open to the community for final review for one week before releasing to production on 8 June. There is is also one issue that will be fixed in this release relating to the Policy search that a few members have reported.

If you have any questions or feedback please contact laura.bengford at icann.org and corinna.ace at icann.org.

Thank you very much.
