Hello all,

Chris Buckridge from RIPE has mentioned that RIPE 81 used a software
called "SpacialChat". In his words:

And one final point - we’ve been using Spatialchat during the breaks (and for the “virtual dinner”) at RIPE 81 this week, and it’s been a huge success from my perspective (and what I’ve heard from others) - rock solid system, and a lovely chance to actually “run into” people and chat… it’s not the same as in-person, but it’s a definite step in that direction:
https://spatial.chat

It would therefore be good to add this to the shortlist of software
that TTF could test out.
Kindest regards,

I attended a online conference (not related to ICANN) and
it had several features which to me would fit well with ICANN
meetings :

- Reception Area where latest updates, links are shared,
resources - like the lobby of the ICANN meeting
- main stage where the main sessions will take place - so
things like welcome session and key plenary sessions,
webinars

- Sessions - the "smaller" sessions so At-Large sessions
with NPOC, GAC, SSAC, GNSO tracks happening or breakout
sessions ; each session can have its own chat so you can
always have an at-large group chat ; you can have "special"
sessions so only certain persons will see it and not
publicised, so maybe the ALAC Excom logged in attendees could
have their room to strategize, ICANN Staff can have for their
internal staff coordination

- networking - you can directly video chat with any person
attending the event so when you go for a "coffee" break or
want to follow up or meet someone, you can or pair up with a
conference attendee randomly (or set it up like Fellows will
be paired with mentors or SMEs)

- Expo area - vendors can still have their "booths" you can
network , you click on the booth and participate in the live
session with the vendor (so you could have a virtual At-Large
booth there) or have a on demand video played and a vendor
chat with participants
- all the while, there's a main chat which you can hide but
then also participate in so there's no separate chat channel
; Organisers and Hosts messages in the chat are more clearly
identified so you see the staff responses faster

- live polls can be done to get the "temperature of the
room"

Here's the 2 min orientation video by the conference organiser
of the one I attended https://youtu.be/Iqt1Df9Ffgk
and one which is a much deeper dive of the hopin features : https://youtu.be/ikj54geMF8M?t=122

So to me, it really brings the F2F event online in a way which
I didn't see before.

So definitely this should also be looked at by the TTF

Greetings to everyone

On this interesting point, I would like to
comment a little on my experience in some
virtual socialization environments

A few years ago, second life was an excellent
3d environment for events and interest group
socialization, however, this tool is not
exactly inclusive for the following reasons

- It requires a bandwidth of at least 10 mb
to be able to have a good experience, (this
unfortunately is not possible in many regions
of the world where they do not even have half
this minimum).

- requires having a computer almost at a gamer
style level, configuration that is usually
quite expensive for most.

However I would like to share a similar to
REMO but simpler and much cheaper to make
meetings of more than 25 people for the price
works in terms of the amount of time per
participant connected. https://gather.town/pricing

They also allow to create 2D environments
where they have different style
pre-configurations (Campus, schools, offices)
as well as allowing to create their own
configurations.

The interesting thing, to my evaluation that
allows to create inside that space,
interactive elements to promote the virtual
collaboration. since it foments the
gamification of all the spaces. also it allows
to create personal spaces for the assistants.
I think that this differentiating factor can
be interesting to explore (also has the
typical for meetings chat, audio, video)

https://gather.town/features

Most importantly, you can have spaces for
small groups of up to 25 people for free as
long as they are used regularly.

If some people want I can create a test space
for those who wish to enter and test it.

Best regards
the At-Large Community, because
the essential community building
social and networking component
part is missing from a virtual
meeting.
In recent months I have attended
several IGFs and the UK IGF used
an interesting social event tool
called REMO. More details on <a

A demo video is available on: <a
I could imagine a break, for
example, where each of the tables
on the one floor is run by 1 ALAC
member. And 3 tables on the other
floor are run by a RALO leadership
each, and people can move around
from table to table. I wonder if
this could be fun and helpful?

Perhaps should this be checked out
at some point? Perhaps there are
other places that can be tested
out? SecondLife? Others?
Kindest regards,

Olivier
