<div dir="ltr"><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif">Following advice from Karine Perset, I am writing to you as the United Kingdom representative on ICANN's Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) to update you on the UK Government's consultations with the administrations in its Overseas Territories which have country code top level domains, concerning the possible release and use of two-character second level domains as requested by a number of commercial TLD registries.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif">The following Overseas Territories have informed the UK Government that they have no objection to the use of two character domains which coincide with their ccTLDs at the second level and have stated that they do not wish to be notified of such requests by registries: </div><div><br></div></div><blockquote style="margin:0 0 0 40px;border:none;padding:0px"><div dir="ltr"><div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif">Falkland Islands (.fk) </div></div></div><div dir="ltr"><div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif">South Georgia (.gs)</div></div></div><div dir="ltr"><div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif">Pitcairn (.pn) </div></div></div></blockquote><div dir="ltr"><div><br></div><div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif">The following UK Overseas Territories have all requested to be notified of all registry requests to use the two characters of their country codes at the second level - and any existing such requests should be put on hold accordingly until they have considered these requests:</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif"><br></div></div></div><blockquote style="margin:0 0 0 40px;border:none;padding:0px"><div dir="ltr"><div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif">Bermuda (.bm)</div></div></div><div dir="ltr"><div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif">British Indian Ocean Territory (.io)</div></div></div><div dir="ltr"><div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif">Cayman Islands (.ky)</div></div></div><div dir="ltr"><div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif">Montserrat (.ms)</div></div></div><div dir="ltr"><div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif">St.Helena (.sh)</div></div></div><div dir="ltr"><div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif">Turks and Caicos Islands (.tc)</div></div></div></blockquote><div dir="ltr"><div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif">I am drawing the attention of the above administrations to the ICANN process for receiving notifications for two character second level requests. </div><br></div><div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif">The administration for the Cayman Islands (which has a representative on the GAC) will be in touch with you directly with regard to safeguards which they wish to see established for applications for the use of .ky at the second level.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif">I am awaiting advice from the administrations in Anguilla (.ai), Ascension (.ac) and the British Virgin islands (.vg) which are UK Overseas Territories and I will provide you with a further update when his information is received. Until then I request you to put any requests to use these two character second level domains on hold pending clarification of these administrations' policy positions.
