Because the information which is now in one line would either be:

	1) spread out over many lines, or

	2) spread out over one line which wraps around the screen
several times.

Unfortunately, many of the restrictions (with respect to SGML) that
make XML easier to parse in software also make it harder to parse in
wetware.
