from my point of view (as an australian) using "AEST" is wrong.
using "AEDT" is *really* wrong.  why?

no one here uses those abbreviations.  please, use offsets.  they
carry much more useful information (ie, what time did this *really*
happen at), rather than a potentially confusing abbreviation.  you
will never be able to "fix the world", and even if you could, you
would have wrong abbreviations.
