I'd like to announce the availability of the Internet draft
"A Timezone Option for DHCP", by Eliot Lear of Cisco Systems and
myself, dated 2006-07-17.

This draft specifies new options for the Dynamic Host Configuration
Protocol, so that DHCP servers can specify their clients' time zone
settings while they're also specifing other stuff like IP addresses
and DNS servers. The draft provides for two ways to set the time
zone: one via a TZ string as defined by POSIX, and the other via a TZ
string that refers to the tz database. The draft also deprecates the
older method of specifying time zones purely via UTC offsets.

Eliot Lear and I welcome any comments on this draft, particularly on
the time zone issues.

You might also be amused by its "Security Considerations" section.

PS. There are two obvious typos that you don't need to tell us about.
The word "compatibility" is misspelled. And the first sentence of
Section 2 says "The following three options are defined" but there are
only two options.
