[tz] Newbie question

I am in charge in that I will be building the compiled tz data from the 
tzdata source I get from iana.org.

So are you saying that there is no automatic way (in some script that 
runs zic) to get the version number, but that I have to copy it manually 
from the tzdata file name? That's ok with me. I just wanted to know if I 
overlooked something.
