<font face="times new roman,serif">I don't think any of the extra links are useful or necessary, and are just complications for no good purpose. As noted in other messages:</font><div><ol><li><font face="times new roman, serif">The TZ identifiers are simply internal identifiers. Any good UI will map to them, but have a very different presentation (including translation). The fewer the better, and the fewer gratuitous changes (like spelling) the better.</font></li>
<li><font face="times new roman, serif">UIs that present cities are going to have many more cities, enough that people can pick one that they know about without having to be aware that they are all in the same zone. (If I'm a German on a trip to Vegas, I'm going to want to pick Vegas for the timezone rather than having to know that Vegas is in the same zone as Los Angeles and not Denver or Phoenix.)</font></li>

Being Canadian, I am intruiged by Ottawa, which is the capital of Canada, the second largest city in Ontario, and the fourth largest in Canada. It seems that since 1970, Ottawa and Toronto and Montreal have followed the same timezone/saylight saving rules, but prior to that, Ottawa and environs was likely more in sync with Montreal's daylight saving rules than Toronto's rules for proximity and commercial reasons. As well, Montreal, not Toronto, was the largest city in Canada until about 1975.<br>

So, as far as I understand the rules, Ottawa does not require a link in tz at this time - but if a link for capitals is ever added in tz - the preferred link for Ottawa should probably be Montreal, not Toronto.<br>
