We've actually been discussing such a protocol for use by KDE, Gnome, Mozilla and others, see <a href="https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=727698">https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=727698</a>. We did try to get OpenStreetMap to support it, but they decided it was outside their interests.<br>
