Dear All,Greetings!We have just posted an INTERNET DRAFT  on deployment of International Emails on IETF.https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-elkchow-iea-deploy/?include_text=1Here is a brief description of what we want to discuss during IETF 97 (Seoul,South Korea)International Email Addresses (IEA) are far from the global reality. The current de-facto language of the Internet is English.  Even today, many of the users of the Internet do not speak English as their primary language.  The next billion users of the Internet are likely to be even less familiar with English. IEA is probably the first application needed in a truly internationalized Internet.  The Email Address Internationalization (EAI) Working Group defined the RFCs to support internationalized email.  The time may now finally have come to develop best practices and to discuss the deployment challenges for IEA.Your feedback and suggestions are most welcome to make above cited draft inclusive of a

Agree that it's not *just* the programmer's fault, although in your example below, he must have been semi sedated to write code that catches a non 3/4 character tld, and then pop up an error message; so inefficient :)It's literally no extra work to change a regular exp
 ression match in code. It's a kind of laziness combined with apathy that drives this.Some developers depend on a dns lookup to determine a valid tld, while others lookup a static list. Computer Science departments are still dominated by 7bit ASCII text processing. There should be in depth study and practice of Unicode text processing in Computer Science departments. Students graduating from such ASCII cultures will not have the skills necessary to properly implement IDNs.  mbedded into systems right from the start.Unicode is a part of internationalisation of Computer Science. For years I have been encouraging Computer Science educators to internationalise their teaching with little success.I recently changed my tactics. There are groups that promote "Internationalisation of the Curriculum" i.e. all curricula and not just Computer Science. I am reaching out to some of these groups and maybe UASG should also reach out to these groups.
