UA Colleagues:
Below is a Call for Presentation Proposals announcement from the
LocWorld conference, to be held in Vancouver Canada on October 27-29,
2020 (if the pandemic allows, of course).
I think this conference is an interesting opportunity to put a Universal
Acceptance message in front of an audience that has reason to be
receptive, but probably hasn't thought much about non-Latin domain names
or email addresses before. Maybe some people on UA-discuss might be
interested in proposing presentations. If so, please follow the
instructions below to submit them to the conference committee. The
deadline is 30 April, 2020. I am happy to offer what advice I can to
anyone on UA-discuss who wants to make a proposal.
I myself do want to make a proposal. I will start a separate thread on
UA-discuss, giving my idea for a presentation and asking for suggestions
to make it stronger. It turns out I live in Vancouver, and can easily
walk to the conference venue. Thus I will almost certainly attend the
conference whether or not I am asked to make a presentation.
For those who don't know, LocWorld is a conference for product
localisers, translators, and the language industry. The name is short
for "Localization World". Multilingual magazine
<https://multilingual.com/> is one of the conference producers.
LocWorld has a long history. It is one of the top conferences for the
language industry. Attendees include the product managers who want their
product localised, the translators and localisation specialists who do
the localisation, and the tool vendors who sell to the localisation
specialists.
Best regards,
—Jim DeLaHunt, software engineer, Vancouver, Canada

Show What You Know!
/Now accepting papers for LocWorld43 Vancouver
October 27-29, 2020/
You would like to enter new markets. You study the statistics, analyze
your cost of entry, calculate your return on investment. You determine
what will be necessary to create a localized presence in those new markets.
This is all good. But it is easy to overlook the most crucial part of
this whole process. It’s not the markets or countries, it’s not
(necessarily) the paying customer. It’s the end-users. Even if you are
selling to companies, you are actually creating a product for the
end-users: people who work for those companies or, even more removed,
their customers. From introductory user interface design to sales and
follow up service: how easy have you made it for users? How comfortable
are they with you and your offerings? Do they feel welcome when using
your site, your product, your support resources? Have you encouraged
trust by showing your ability to cater to their needs?
We invite you to share what you have learned from your experience with
global end-users: how you have successfully engaged them or perhaps the
painful lessons learned from failure. Your audience will be eager to
learn from you and to share their experiences!
Also, we always accept proposals on new trends, general localization and
international business; see the submission link

for all suggested topics.
Our board of experts will review and evaluate all submissions. If yours
is selected, you will get the opportunity to lead the conversation with
the influencers and up-and-comers of the localization industry. We can’t
wait to see you there!

The LocWorld team is well and we hope you are, also.
Regarding LocWorld42 in Berlin, we are in negotiations with our

for further developments in Germany before we can make a definitive

virtual and safely-distant way to get together, network and learn. We
promise to let you know more as soon as we can. We ask for your patience
