Some people on this list appear to think that SMTP servers ought to consider punycode in the domain part as equivalent to utf8, though.



Yes, this is an eternal debate 😊  In UASG-007 this is explicitly called out.  Best practice is not to send it, but always to accept it and process it as if it were UTF8 for purposes of displaying, searching, sorting and threading.
