The Ombuds covers the entire community, including staff actions, inactions etc. as per the bylaws. He is very focused on accountability and also transparency. One of the things he wishes to improve is accountability to the community and presently there is no internal (to ICANN the corporation) accountability mechanism for complaints about his staff or about various processes. And also there is no reporting mechanism for staff issues that goes back to the community. I expect to be working closely with this complaints officer as a resource and also as a referral point of contact for issues that may not require my attention but nonetheless need to be addressed by the corporation. We will see how it develops once they fill the position and we discuss our roles.
