Dear All,

We would like to announce the timetable for the selection of the 2015-2017 ALAC Member from LACRALO replacing Fatima Cambronero.

_The Timetable is:
_
Selection Timetable for the 2015-2017  ALAC Member from LACRALO:

 * 6 August â Announcement of call for nominations and Nomineeâs Statement
 * 6 August â 19 August (at 23:59 UTC) - Nomination period (nominations
   accepted for 10 working days).
 * 26 August  (at 23:59 UTC) - Deadline for nomination acceptances*
 * 28 August (at 00:00 UTC) - 04 September (23:59 UTC)  - Elections or
   confirmation poll (If required, elections or a confirmation poll
   will begin no later than one week after the deadline for nomination
   acceptances and end no later than two weeks after that deadline).
 * 2015 AGM [ ICANN 54 ] - Newly elected ALAC representative shall be
   seated on the ALAC at the close of the 2015 AGM on Thursday, 22nd
   October 2015.

* All nominees are expected to submit a brief Nomineeâs Statement explaining why they believe they are a suitable candidate. The Nomineeâs Statements will be posted to the LACRALO wiki. Nominees are also requested to complete or update their Statement of Interest (see: At-Large New SOIs Workspace <https://community.icann.org/display/atlarge/At-Large+New+SOIs+Workspace>).


_Criteria for ALAC Members:

_According to 5.4.1 of the LACRALO/ICANN MOU <https://community.icann.org/display/LACRALO/LACRALO+Organising+Documents>

 _5.4.1 The LACRALO will choose (2) individuals to serve as representatives to the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) in the terms specified in the ICANN bylaws. Only those ALSes who have been accredited prior to the election will be able to vote. Each accredited ALS will have one (1) vote. The selected representatives must be members of different ALSes, must have their principal residence in different countries of the region and their nationalities must be different. Selected representatives will have the responsibilities described in the bylaws.

According to rule 8 of our LACRALO Operating Principles <https://community.icann.org/display/LACRALO/LACRALO+Organising+Documents>:

 * The selected representatives shall be a member of an accredited ALS;
   and
 * Have his or her main place of residence in a country of the LACRALO
   region; and
 * Cannot be of the same nationality as the sitting regional ALAC
   Representatives (this *excludes* candidates from Argentina and
   Brazil) ; and
 * In the case of the election, the affiliation, residency and
   nationality shall also be taken into account with respect to the
   person acting as a representative vis-Ã-vis the ALAC on behalf of
   the LAC appointed by the NOMCOM; anNeeds to understand and respect
   the Obligations and Responsibilities of ALAC members (see

_Presentation of Candidate(s) on Single Issue Call:

A single issue call will be held after the closeof the nomination period. During this call, accepted candidate(s) will be asked to give a brief presentation of why they believe they should be selected. Members of LACRALO will be able to ask questions of the candidate(s) .

The rules applicable to various nomination situations are outlined below:


*In the case of multiple nominations: *

 The standard weighted voting method will be used, and the candidate with the largest number of votes will be declared the winner (LACRALO Operating Principles , Article 8 (Updated in March 4 2009 by the LACRALO General Assembly held during the ICANN meeting in Mexico. Please note that Article 8 must be read and interpreted in conjunction with Article 12**regarding voting (2007 Rules of Procedures Rules of Procedure were adopted by the LACRALO on June 24th 2007. In the case of a tie:
*
 A random selection, carried out by LACRALO leadership and supervised by At-Large Staff will be use to break the tie (_UN GA Rule 132 [93_]).*

In the case of a single candidate:
*
 Precedent will be applied. The LACRALO community will hold a poll. If a majority (more than 50%) of people responding to the poll, NOT counting abstentions, indicates NO, then the selection process for the ALAC seat will be restarted with a new call for nominations. On the contrary, the candidate will be nominated.
