The first sentence is incorrect.

Even valid arguments can be opposed, and are being opposed.  All the
time.  Even by Mr Arasteh's employer, as a matter of fact.

That's why there is discussion/negotiation.  Often not the most valid
argument prevails, but the least invalid :-)-O. And of course often
also the ones made by the most skilled negotiators or the ones backed
by the most powerful.

I am not commenting on the second sentence.
