I think the question right now is shall we post the translation in its current form or not?

Regards,
Baher

Dear Sarmad ..

Apologies for the delayed reply ..
Frankly, I'm extremely busy with so many work to done even during the Eid vacation week ..
I can check at the office if we have someone to go through the translation but unfortunately this won't be before Sun 13th after the vacation and would be only from a pure linguistic point of view (meaning that this person will not be familiar with the technical temrs) ..
So unless we have other volunteers I don't think we can meet the deadline of public comments ..
Very sorry for not being able to help in such an important task ..

Kind Regards
--Manal

Team:

As the deadline of public comments is approaching (14-Nov) please advise as to where you are on the translation review. If you think the translation we provided can be posted, and comments on translated terminology can be part of the public comments, we can do that.

Please advise.

Best,
Baher

I just started reading the doc in Arabic … I have the following high level points:
- Many English terms are still being used (ICANN, IDN, DNS, gTLD, TLD, …) despite the availability of Arabic equivalents

- The Arabic translation of the "variants" are not accurate: see the following example:

o مشروع قضايا متغيرات أسماء النطاقات الدولية

o قضايا ومتطلبات TLD المتغيرة الخاصة بالخط العربي

o تحدد هذه الوثيقة القضايا ذات الصلة بتعريف المتغيرات وإداراتها وتنفيذها على مستوى الجذر

We use "متشابهات" for variants.

In general the translation is readable but unfortunately in many cases misleading, ambiguous, or not accurate.
Example:
1) العلامات لا تحتاج التقاط الأعراف اللغوية ويمكن معاملتها كسلسلة بدلاً من كلمة لغوية، الأمر الذي يقوض الحجج القائمة على الكلمة.

Hence it needs extensive proof reading.

The sooner we can post the translation the better. Public comments period closes on 14-Nov which is not far.

Dear All,

As discussed, here is the Arabic translation of the document we have developed. ICANN has requested that we help proof read and finalize the document, as it is technical in nature and as we are perhaps the best people to verify its contents.

Could those members who speak Arabic language review it and return the redline version. We look forward to your collaboration in this context.

Dear Baher,

What are the timelines related to this activity which we should keep in mind?

Regards,
Sarmad
