Hello,
I think that the registrations of the primary domain extension of the
internet should not be a "for profit" enterprise.  This includes the entire
supply chain of the endeavor, including the manager of the .COM registry
(Verisign).  Ultimately, ICANN should dictate the prices, and any 3rd
parties to the process should be made to be COMPLETELY transparent to their
expenses (for the purpose of providing related services) and should operate
on, at most, a 10% operating margin (again, for the purpose of providing
related services). Prices should be negotiated in good faith by both
parties every 3 years.  If Verisign does not agree to this, then I'm sure
there would be MANY companies who would be willing to take their place
given the sheer amount of revenue involved.

A quick way to solve this problem would be for ICANN to facilitate a .COM
manager selection process every 7 years, and then we'll see what prices
Verisign proposes.
