This is a very risky amendment. There is no clear public value demonstrated within it, and any price increase to the most prominent and sought after TLD (.com) risks alienating global participation in the growing digital services industry. This is especially true for developing countries where the majority of it’s population falls beneath the global poverty line. Price increases may also inadvertently invite more government involvement and regulation on both ends of the political spectrum.

If this goes through, there are far more implications than what is bundled in the amendment. This has a global impact. I would anticipate press coverage, followed by opportunists weighing in on the optics of it, not the substance of it.
